LIAM MOONEY / A CHARMING TRESSEL [SIC] TABLE

I receive an text from Lisa Brice who is in town for the holidays. Sue Williamson is organising a dinner party tonight. Lisa warns me that my ex-girlfriend Ruth Sacks and fiancé Simon Gush will be there and will understand if I don’t want to come. But I have a prior dinner arrangement already with Whatiftheworld and not really in the mood for drama. But it would have been nice to see Sue though. It’s been a while.

Get to the Whatiftheworld party and it is surprisingly pleasant, meaning that everyone is sort of in a good mood and getting along. A rare occurrence it our tiny artworld. It’s the Big Wednesday” show crowd and I suppose everyone pretty happy. I get put in charge of the one braai, but am pretty trashed at this stage, so hope that all the meat is actually cooked. I here a crash inside and finally someone got into a fight. But, alas. The table decided to die. It is a beautiful glass top table with designer trestles, which, to my knowledge collapsed under the weight of the food. All my work gone. The eve fizzles out and I walk Linda Stupart home and attempt the long walk to freedom as I have no money for a cab. I don’t get mugged.
