This image reminds me overwhelmingly of the work of that woman who won the Kebble prize, with the animated portraits. My best example of utterly trite painting being taken seriously because it involved... oh wow... some New Media.
'Tanya Poole' is the name you're grasping for. At least in Europe, Bad Painting by the likes of Albert Oehlen and Martin Kippenberger had the benefit of ironic detachment: here in SA we're shown naively bad painting and we elect it, irony-free, as the winner on a country-wide competition...
Christian is that you? Commenting at 6:04. Silly pumpkin, you need to wipe your glasses clean. This painting looks nothing at all like Tanya Poole's painting. Haha its an ordinary mistake to make, if you're blind.
It was ME and I don't wear glasses! I think the similarity between this pic and Tanya Poole's Kebble stuff is certain giveaway evidence of cheesy provincialism, which is actually pretty cool if you know how to use it. Sadly Ms Poole seems to think the thing to do is paint like a serious old master, which she does resoundingly badly.

See her contemporary Salon painting on Artthrob... looks like a feelgood moment from a Pampers commercial.
