Really? Is this an issue, that I asked for a review of an art show? Must I apologize? I am sorry if I touched a nerve. But, really? My first comment was a sincere plea, there was no venom in it. I'm kind of shocked. It looked like an interesting show.
Oh for fucks sake. What else do you want, breakfast in bed? I wrote what I felt like writing. Working for artheat is voluntary. If you're not satisfied, volunteer.
Discussion should be encouraged. There should be sustained criticism. My goodness. All this should be laid on for you guys because that's how you think it should be. What are YOU doing? You probably have better critical skills than I do, but you don't ever write it down because it's too much hard work, isn't it? You have other pressures. You'd do it if there was money in it, etc etc etc. Perhaps one of the numerous people who read this blog could post a comment about the show in Gugs and start a discussion. That would really be so generous and so very much appreciated by all.
By the way, there is a proper review on the way, promised by Robert Sloon, of the AVA leg of the show. I just don't want to promise on his behalf that it's definitely coming because I know what a huge amount of work this stuff is, and so it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he didn't manage to find the time.
Anyway, it's nice to know you're all still out there, carping away. At least it means that when somebody does come up with something interesting to say you'll all be around to read it.
Have to say I was happy to discover the Matt here is not Matt Hindley, who I thought had gone temporarily insane.
Not that it is a terrible thing that Matt did, or that I mind at all. It is just worth remembering that we do all this stuff for free, we pay for everything it takes to run this blog, and sometimes we run out of energy. None of us have trust funds, we all live off the smell of an oilrag, and I, just as an example, owe R17 000 on a car I crashed doing the Daily Artheat in Joburg, which we also didn't get paid for. We got air tickets.
Doing artheat brings no money or glory or sales. What I get out of it is at least knowing that I put some effort into our sadly unfunded little art world instead of sitting around whingeing about it.
l are you saying that if you were paid it wouldn't be acceptable to produce crap? I cant find your logic. According to old coco-nose, money-crap. Now you are saying????
Lizza, thanks for all your hard work. It appears that you are feeling under-appreciated for ALL your voluntary labours. I completely understand your excuse and feel much closer to you now...much closer. I almost feel a sense of guilt for reading anything anymore. Strange but thanks again for everything.

I read my comment. I had forgotten it. I am sorry. I did sincerely want a review though
Dont any of the artists have names? Long tradition of no names in Africa.

Hello! As matt has neglected to make a choice, I will make one for him.
I would like art criticism about picture number 2, you know, the second one down. With the orange clad man in it? That would be nice! Thank you!
Robert, will you do it? Will anybody do it? This is a site of art criticism after all.
lizza i don't think you are helping our art scene with your poor art criticism. there, i said it.
discussion should be encouraged. you are not helping.
If it were an option/choice I would choose to have a sustained (and varied) tradition of art writing in this country
i agree
anonymous 11:49 is not being very fair. I have enjoyed Lizza's criticism in the past

Found some clues to the Orange Clad Man on http://studio2666.blogspot.com/
also a pre fight pic of Orange Clad Man and Ronald Suresh Roberts

I feel a martyrdom coming on...! Preach it, sister! (to the strains of "Nobody knows the trouble I've seen" played on the world's smallest violin)
