I think if work is going to be sold at about a sixth of the material costs, let alone the artist's time or anything else, the artist should be given the choice of paying to the charity whatever pittance is being made out of their work and getting their stuff back. Otherwise it's just rude.

I believe the artists in question chose to donate their work to the auction.
also i'm sure that if they wanted to donate money to a charity, they might just be allowed to do that

one of the many strange things about this charity is the way it structures itself at the charity/public interface. Check out their website which explains that it is a section 21 (charity) company, and that the organisation has two arms, a FOUNDATION, and the PROJECT. The Foundation is run by very accountable public figures from the g(u)ilt financial houses. It's function is to raise money for the PROJECT. The project is the functioning arm, this is the body which does the good work. In order to pay for this good work, the project makes, from time to time, proposals and requests for funding to the Foundation. All well and good.
What is slightly disturbing, though is that nowhere on the website is there any facility for making donations to the foundation. The bank account listed for donations is clearly that of the PROJECT not the FOUNDATION. This is very strange?

That doesn't seem so sinister. If all the FOUNDATION does is raise money for the PROJECT, then surely it is the PROJECT that needs the money and it is thus entirely fine to donate money to them. If the PROJECT has to request their money from the FOUNDATION, then donating straight to the PROJECT would be a streamlining thing. right?
Not all (art?) charities are run by swindlers maybe?
