Well, not that I want anyone to think I spend my time watching soap operas, which I really, really don't, I'm far, far too busy being a critic, but watching Isidingo the other day I noticed in the credits "Art in Barker Haynes house by Barend De Wet". What can I say? The centre cannot hold.
Barend is all over The Towns... A vellum representation titled "Barend" (sans tattoos) is on show at the Noire Gallerrie, Paris. Authored by Gaving Younge, it is a dead spit of a work Barend himself exhibited some while back, a resin cast fullscale replica. Did Gavin borrow the cast & englove with vellum? Interesting production method. Does this make the work in Paris a collaboration or a short cut?
The Big Brother S.A. house was entirely kitted out with artists' work.. it was about as much of a stampede at the time as the Brett Kebble show. Same crowd too... I particularly remember Doreen Southwood. I think Brett Murray too, can't remember

Never mind Barker Haynes, wasn't it Wayne Barkerwho decorated the set of (no Salvardor, it was son of O.R.) Dali's People of the South?
Ah, remember those heady days when South African art appeared to be about to have any influence what-so-fucking-ever in local popular culture
isidingo isn't nearly as good since barker got rid of his eye patch...
