Sometimes I Don't Even Need a Blowjob. Lizza Littlewort's Paris Salon at What if the World

Sunday, October 22, 2006

I've been meaning to see this show since I missed it due to unexpected illness on that Cape Artnight thing, and I'm really glad that I made the effort. It was a clever show, with a lot of rad metaphors: Paris and Fame, Paris and Art, Paris and Pretoria, Paris and Paris, Paris and the Media, all presented through a series of (mostly) well-crafted cartoons and paintings. And they were (mostly) really funny. I really enjoy the obsessiveness of working with one subject for a whole show, and pulling out as much meaning from one object as possible. Its an effective way of getting message across. However, I must admit, the cleverness became a little contrived, and a little draining, and it detracted from the relaxed and casual nature of the cartoons. Still, one of my favourite shows of the year.

Thanks Bob. I agree. I'm so happy to know I'll never have to do stand-up comedy in my whole life. But doing this certainly has increased my respect for funny people. It's been worthwhile for that alone.

Its a pleasure Lizza. Your name also rhymes with Fizza, Grizza and Prizza. Are they related?
