contempoGreetings from my lazy throne of personal nepotistic blogging in Gauteng. Sid says hi, too. I toyed with the idea of posting anonymously here, but WTF, who cares? Not sure how often I'll be writing, but I want to make clear again that Linda, Robert and All Things Petty aside, I applaud any and all arts press contributions in SA, especially alternatives to the mainstream and gallery driven media (our - TWO? - arts publications, not including Contempo, who I'm also glad is starting up). That being said, I also welcome (yes, even non-Gauteng) contributions to my own blog, and more importantly SAartsEmerging, so please hit me up if you want in.

I've been admittedly hermitized with baby and some travels as of late, nor am I that keyed in to gossip around town, but I guess I could tell you about this benign tumor they found on my forehead (no, for real; I don't mean my nose)?

Speaking of Contempo, they are in dire straights. They just can't get the numbers they need in advertising to keep up, and only after two issues - I think this a major disappointment. The way they responded to feedback between issues one and two was admirable, IMNSHO. I'm calling all of Art Heat's venture capitalist saviors with heaps of dosh to see if ya can't make a fine investment in a small mag that will help an elite, broke few. While you're at it, buy lots of art from lots of SA artists.

more shameless self promotion

obviously, irony is dead. that aside, i'm not sure how trying to help the art scene by tirelessly promoting it at my own expense, and asking others to help out, is either shameless or self-promoting, but I came to art heat for a bit of fun, rather than this. where's your sense of humor, or more importantly, your web site?

but please don't write advertorials for your shite publications and ask for money the first time you've ever appeared here. god, what a sleazebag

and trying to sound like mr up-tempo hip man only makes you sound desperate. Be yourself, if you have one

uh, Contempo's not my publication by any stretch of the imagination, and i asked for people to "buy art" and support the scene more generally (BTW, I'm not the only one who mentioned how horrible it is that they are closing their doors on this site - http://artheat.blogspot.com/2006/07/tempo-magazine.html ). and be myself? ok, sure, "anonymous". Believe it or not, I'm here to try and direct some of my readers towards giving artheat a chance. One thing I learned from being a teacher: lazy peops love to bitch about what YOU are doing wrong the loudest. (giggle.) try doing something constructive, little one, then get back to me.

good, nice to hear you , ah, being yourself. and, even tho i'm not part of art heat's organisation, I'd venture to say that getting venture capitalists to read it is not their only vision, nor is it the only vision of art in general. If it were venture capitalists we were after there are a lot of other things we could be doing. I may be wrong, but my impression about the whole point of art, these days, is that there is a little crack between itself and commercial culture, which gives a little possibility of the discussion of things other than serving up coomercial products.

dude, you so totally need a life. and the above? very funny. honestly, you should go on the road with this shit. i know at least 6 or 7 venture capitalist visionaries who'd be into it.

As a blogger, I produce blogs that invite viewer-participants into a space of exploration; they're asked to read difficult questions about identity, history, memory, communication and self.

As a venture capitalist, I provoke a thoughtful engagement with money and signs; my investors learn that unpacking the 'everyday' can change the ways we buy.

As a self-promoter, I use new and traditional media as means to carry on conversations with my audiences; I promote and help others to do the same.

cool! you learned about irony! now you sound so much less dumb. next time, try applying that knowledge to your limited reading skills, pay attention to the art/people you criticize before doing so, figure out that there are only a handful of artists who actually make any money in the field (and I am not one of them), try, perhaps, learning a thing or two about generosity (both using it, and looking for it in others), and when you are all done, i'll give you a shiny treat. thanks for playing, and big smooches!

I am gripped by this wonderful new blog soapie unfolding before my eyes.....hooray! :)
