Can't buy me love...

Tuesday, June 20, 2006

A Gustav Klimt painting was recently sold for what is rumoured to be the highest amount ever paid for a painting, technically making it the most valuable painting ever. The portrait, Adele (1907) is one of five Klimt pieces stolen from Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer by the Nazis in 1938 which were then housed at the Austrian National Gallery and returned to Ferdinand's heirs only this year.

The buyer is Mr. Ronald Lauder of both cosmetic company Estee Lauder and the
Neue Galerie in New York (where the work will go on display) and he is rumoured to have paid "considerably more" than the $104 million that held the previous record for Picasso's Boy With Pipe.

Which just goes to show once again that no amount of money in the world can buy good taste.
